Cinemark's Star Wars Bait and Switch

Cinemark Theaters advertised limited edition Darth Maul 3D glasses to the "first Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace RealD 3D ticketholders, in line, at the theatre." I attended the midnight showing at my local Cinemark which cost 11.75 and was told they were not giving out the Darth Maul glasses to the midnight showing. They would be giving them out during the second screening when they opened back up later today. That showings ticket cost was only 8.50. So they advertise collectible glasses to the first in line tricking you into purchasing the more expensive ticket, and then give them out to the second group of people to watch the movie who paid less. The guy who took my ticket stub even suggested I come back and watch it again tomorrow to get the glasses if I really wanted them. This is false advertising and borderline fraud, since it was suggested I watch the movie a second time later today to get the glasses.

To anyone who attended a midnight showing and did not receive their Darth Maul glasses. I suggest taking your ticket stub back prior to the next screening today, and demand your glasses. The above advertisement from the Cinemark website says first ticketholders in line. It doesn't mention first ticketholders for X:XX showtime. So just be there first holding your ticket when they open back up. Demand to see the manager if you have to. If you can't make it back up to your theater, then write letters of complaint to Cinemark, and the Offical Star Wars Blog. I couldn't find anything but a mailing address for Lucasfilms.

[UPDATE] I was asked for the name and location of the theater I attended the screening at. The manager of that theater then emailed me and said he will hold a pair of glasses for me at the theater along with 2 free admission tickets.

Matthew Broderick's Day Off

This years Super Bowl ad from Honda features Matthew Broderick recreating several scenes from his 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The ad successfully recreates the fell of the movie, and actually had me wanting to re-watch the film.

Also Volkswagen posted this tease for their Super Bowl spot. It features a course of dogs barking "The Imperial March" from Star Wars.

This week they posted their actual commercial featuring an overweight dog. What does this have to do with Star Wars? Watch until the end to find out.

New Books and a Game

Last week got a couple new manga, and a PS3 game. Picked up Fruits Basket Ultimate Edition volume 3 which includes volumes 5 and 6 of the manga. Also bought volume 4 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

I found out later that The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya had also came out this month so headed back to Books a Million to see if they had it. They didn't have it in hardcover so I had to put in an order for it. But they had some books marked down to $1.00 on a "Last Chance" table. I got Star Wars: The Clone Wars by R. A. Salvatore, who is a great author even if he did kill Chewbacca. If you haven't read any of his books I suggest The Spearwielder's Trilogy and The Icewind Dale Trilogy. I also bought The Star Wars Super Collector's Wishbook, which is similar to Steve Sansweet's Tomart's Price Guide to Worldwide Star Wars Collectibles

Last but not least I got Demon's Souls for the PS3. This game is really fun, but it can also be really frustrating because you WILL DIE, and you will die A LOT. It's a semi-online action rpg game. The reason I say semi-online is because the bulk of the game you will be playing mostly by yourself. But under certain circumstances you can summon other players into your game to help you, or let yourself be summoned into their games. Your game can also be invaded by players intent on killing you. Players can also leave messages to help or deceive other players and leave bloodstains which is a short recording of a players death that others can view.

Anyone else playing Demon's Souls? What are your thoughts on the game? My PSN ID is Ziroc.

Utada, Fanboys, and Terminators

Utada's newest album
Went to Best Buy today to pick up a few items. First was Utada's newest US album, "This is the One". It's a very good album. My top 3 songs from it are "Come Back To Me", "Simple and Clean" (Disney's Kingdom Hearts), and "Sanctuary" (Disney's Kingdom Hearts 2)

PICT1096
Also picked up a couple new movies. Got Fanboys on DVD. This was an ok film. It had to quite a few jokes that you had to be a fan of Star Wars to get. I liked that the studio decided to keep the Cancer plot thread, because it gave meaning to their trip to Skywalker Ranch other than just a group of geeks wanting to be the first to see Episode 1. Also picked up the new Skynet Edition T2: Judgment Day on Blu-ray. Picked it up because I didn't have it on DVD, plus it came with a $50.00 Sideshow Collectables gift card exclusive from Best Buy. I was actually lucky getting this because when I looked in the Blu-ray and New Release sections they didn't have any of the Skynet Edition on the shelf. I couldn't find any special display for them either, but as I was looking through the TV on DVD section I found 1 copy someone has sat down there.

Not sure if I'm going to use the gift card yet, because your limited to using it on select items. And right now the only two figures it can be used on that interest me are Wicket and Misa Misa. Everything else eligible for the card are out of my price range even with the $50 off. I might wait awhile since the card is good until May 31, 2010 to get something. If anyone is interested in seeing what all items the card can be used on you can see a list on their Gift Card Page.

Good Samaritan Stormtrooper

While out patrolling Tokyo Trooper Danny Choo saw a young lady drop her purse. Now the Rebels would have you believe the Empire is evil, and that they would pocket the purse faster than the Falcon can make the Kessel Run. But, here we see what fine upstanding citizens soldiers of the Empire are. Trooper Danny, unable to catch up to the girl, took the purse to the nearest police station. Star Wars: Clone Wars Airs Tonight

Clone Wars begins airing tonight at 9PM Eastern on Cartoon Network. I think I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed the movie. The only issues I had with it were Zero the Hutt, who I think was only created to give Amadalia a bigger role in the movie. And the wise cracking battle droids kind of got on my nerves. Overall I thought it was pretty good for a pilot episode of a TV series. And here is the rest of it.

Desk Wars: Return of Kagami

My Yuki Nagato, and Kagami Hiiragi Figma's arrived yesterday from Hobby Search. I had already opened Yuki, before I thought about taking photos of the packaging. So I just stood her in front of the box. Have some problems with the Yuki figure, but they are pretty minor issues. You can't get the figma stand into the hole on Yuki's back when she has her cape on. You have to sort of balance her with the hole in the cape. Also the cape section you use when posing her with the guitar does fit together perfectly with the main section, but it does fit well enough to stay put. Lastly, I noticed Yuki's shoes are brown, while the picture on the box shows white with blue soles.

Last time we left Konota surrounded by the stormtrooper, and General Grieveous after they had blasted Tsukasa to the edge of the desk. Recap here.
As Konota is trying to think of a way out of her predicament, Tsukasa's sister Kagami shows up. "How dare you blast my sister!" she yells at the stormtrooper.

Looking over to Konota she says, "Let's teach these bobble heads a lesson."
Kagami tries to take out the stormtrooper with a Hiiragi Flying Kick, while Konota jumps on Grievous and starts pounding on his head.
However, Kagami is surprised as the stormtrooper dodges her attack.
And quickly blasts her from behind. Meanwhile Grievous reveals his seach set of arms and grabs Konota flinging her through the air.

Tsukasa regains conciousness as the duo approach to finish her off. She quickly dials a number on her cell phone. "Please send help," she says as the person on the other end answers.
In a flash of light Yuki Nagato appears behind the unsuspecting evil doers.
She waves her wand, summoning the ultimate weapon in the universe to dispatch Grievous and the stormtrooper.

Afterward, the girls have some fun. Konota dances as Yuki plays her guitar. Kagami enjoys the latest issue of her favorite manga, while Tsukasa wonders why she got stuck serving the tea.

Desk Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Today Konota was walking Tsukasa through the English menus on her cell phone.

Konota, busy showing Tsukasa how to change her ring tone, didn't notice the Stormtrooper coming up behind Tsukasa. She also failed to see General Grievous coming from the other side.

More after the jump...

Not wanting to loose the element of surprise, the Stormtrooper quickly blasts Tsukasa with his AT-AT.

Konota tells the Stormtrooper, "How dare you do that to my friend! Now prepare to feel the wrath of my 'Super Cosplay Drop Kick'"

The Stormtrooper laughs at Konota. "Oh really? Maybe you should look behind you. We claim this desk in the name of The Empire. I think we'll send you to work in the spice mines of Kessel as punishment for beating me up so much."

Is this the end of Konota? Find out next time on Desk Wars!

TO BE CONTINUED......

Well, if you hadn't noticed I got another of the McDonald's Star Wars figures. This time I got General Grievous. Grievous's special feature is his lightsaber's light up. They don't light up very bright, so I couldn't get a picture showing off that feature. Below are a couple of close up shots of him. Enjoy.

More of my Collection

Been a busy weekend. Saturday I put up some new shelves in my room, and had to work open to close at work Sunday. Should be my last Sunday like that for awhile, because another assistant manager said she wanted to work every Sunday. If she wants to do it I wasn't going to argue with her. Before we were alternating between the two of us who worked on Sunday.

One of two Pepsi Star Wars Episode 1 character standees I got while I was working at K-Mart. The other is Queen Amadala, but I can't get a picture of her because she's behind one of my bookshelves. I have a lot of other movie advertising materials, which I'll take some pictures of later.

More after the jump.....

Set of 4 Lucky Star Gashapons. Next week two of my favorite series start their new seasons, Heroes (Sept. 22), and Survivor (Sept. 25). Really looking forward to Heros since they are adding more villains to show. Who is your favorite character on Heros? Mine is Hiiro. At first I thought he was just for comic relief, but quickly saw he was one of the major players. My favorite episodes are the one's he's in.

This is "Conquerors Spell" from The Bradford Exchanges Realm of Dragons collection. The wings have art by The Brothers Hildebrant. There is at least one other dragon in this series, possibly more. I'm not really sure because in order to get the second and subsequent dragons you had to subscribe to the series. Meaning when a new dragon was released they would automatically send it to you, then if you didn't want it you had to send it back. That was just to much trouble to go through.

Have you ever purchased a figure set you had to buy one piece at a time via a subscription plan?

Star Wars Toys at McDonalds

Went to Wal-mart after work today to get some things, and was going to buy some popcorn shrimp from their deli. While waiting in line I noticed the McDonald's there had Star Wars: The Clone Wars Bobble Head toys with their kid's meals. So instead of getting popcorn shrimp I bought a happy meal.

More after the jump to lightspeed...

There are 18 different toys to collect.

Do you collect happy meal toys of your favorite shows, or movies? Do you open them or leave them in the package?

Konota doesn't like the Empire messing with her turf.

The two face off for the final battle for control of the desk.

The Empire makes the first move and charges Konota.

Konota's knocked down! Has the Empire won and gained control of the desk?

No, Konota quickly discards her weapon, and lands a drop kick on the AT-AT's driver.

Standing triumphantly upon her fallen foe, Konota dares anyone to try and take over her desk again.
