Christmas Day

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Besides a bit of a cold, I had a pretty nice one. We had a really nice dinner of ham, scalloped potatoes, and potatoe salad. Everyone really enjoyed their gifts. I had got my Mom a crockpot, Dad a DVD player, and brother Kung Fu Panda on DVD. I got some clothes and some movies, as you can see below.

More after the jump...

I got Iron Man, Bleach Season 1, Heroes Season 2, All 4 Indiana Jones movies, Monster Squad, and Classic Christmas Favorites which has 10 old Christmas shows like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Year Without a Santa Clause.

The Iron Man DVD came with this mini-bust from Sideshow Collectibles.

It also came with a $50 gift card to Sideshow Collectibles. I'll need to check out their website and see if their is anything worth buying that's close to that amount.

Disney drops Narnia films

Apparently Disney has decided not to continue co-producing and co-financing future Narnia films. Disney has declined to give an official statement as to the reasons, but poor box office results for Prince Caspian may be one of the reasons. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe took in $292 million domestic and $453 million internationally, while Prince Caspian only took in $141 million domestic and 278$ internationally. So, the fate of future movies based on C.S. Lewis' classic novels is now up in the air. I, for one, hope another studio picks up the final 5 books and finishes the series, as The Chronicles of Narnia are some of my favorite books. But, if another studio does pick them up, I hope they don't mess to much with what's already been done and end up ruining the rest of them.

Do you want to see the final books made into films?

The Dark Knight and Eroge

Bought The Dark Knight on Blu-ray the other day. It's actually my first Blu-ray movie since I got a PS3. Since I don't have a HD TV I still buy DVD's since they are cheaper. But Best Buy had a collectors set that came with a Batpod statue.

More after the jump....

The backdrop is actually the Disc case, which is pretty cool. Also picked up the Lucky Star Vol 4 Collectors box while I was at Best Buy. This one came with a girl's summer uniform print T-shirt, and Miyuki character CD.

I took advantage of J-list's Year Dating Sim sale this month to pick up some older Peach Princess, and G-Collection titles that are about to go out of print and take advantage of the free Hirameki games which are also out of print since Hirameki went under.

Gibo, Chain, Private Nurse, Critical Point, Little My Maid, Sensei 2, and I'm Gonna Serve You 4 are all going out of print and will be download only from now on. Since, I prefer having the actual disc over downloads, I decided to get them since they were $5.00 and got a few free games to boot.

America Ninja Warrior Challenge

Wed. night G4 aired the 21st Sasuke tournament, and as part of their American Ninja Challenge 3 G4 sent 4 hopeful American's to compete.

Congratulations to Levi Meeuwenberg, Brian Orosco, Mark Witmer, and Luci Romberg on their runs through the Sasuke obsticle course. Mark unfortunately injured his hand prior to his run, and was taken out early on the Log Grip. Hope you have a quick recover Mark, and get a chance to go again for Sasuke 22. Luci had a great run, and was the first woman to ever clear the Jumping Spider obstacle in Stage 1, but was unable to clear tha Halfpipe Attack. Levi and Brian both made it to stage 2, but were unable to clear the larger gap at the top of the Salmon Climber. Attack of the Show hosts Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn also ran the course. Kevin made it to the Log Grip, and while he had a good grip with his hands his feet slipped and touched the water disqualifying him. Olivia started off good on the Sextuple Step, but lost her balance on the final step plunging her into the water.

This was Levi's second time to compete in the Sasuke tournament. In the previous tournament he was the only person to make it to stage 3. And if he decides to try for the next American Ninja Challenge he has my vote.

Comcast Downgrades Digital Cable Service

I use Comcast as my digital cable provider, since they bought Time Warner out here. In the last month they updated their digital cable service, and I use the word update lightly because it's actually a downgrade. During the update not only did I lose all my preset recordings on my DVR box, but all the shows I had saved and hadn't watched yet. Now I'd like to make a comparison between the old system, which was in place from when it was Time Warner and Comcast's so called "new and improved" system.

Old Channel Guide
-Search for shows up to a week in advanced
-Search for programs by name.

"New and Improved" Channel Guide
-Search for shows up to a week in advanced
-Search for shows by first letter only

Old DVR System
-Able to set priority of recordings in case you ever end up with more than 2 recordings happening at the same time. Higher priority ones take precident
-When making a one time recording that will interfere with 2 preset recordings, can temporarily cancel one of the recordings. DVR will automatically record canceled one next it comes on.

"New and Improved" DVR System
-Unable to set recording priority
-When any recording interferes with 2 preset recordings, you must permanently cancel one of the recordings. Then you must later go and manually reset the canceled recording if you want the DVR to record it the next time it comes on.

As you can see I compared 4 features of both systems. Of these 4 comparisons 3 are actually downgrades, and 1 stayed the same. I've sent a complaint to Comcast's Feedback department, but I highly doubt they do anything to address them.

If anyone else wants to address their displeasure with this "new and improved" system Comcast's Feedback address is http://www.comcastsupport.com/forms/contact/RickGermano/Default.aspx

False Advertising at Blockbuster Video

I went into my local Blockbuster Video today and they had a table with a sign that said "All Previewed DVD's Buy 2 Get 2 Free". Well I picked out four movies, two of them were 14.99, and the other two were 3.99. When I go to check out the cashier tells me the 14.99 DVD's aren't part of the sale only the ones 9.99 and Under, and a second employee says it's only the ones on the table with the sign. Now the sign said "All Previewed DVD's" not "9.99 and Under DVD's", not "DVD's On This Table" it said "All".

Now I'm not sure what dictionary Blockbuster is using but the English dictionary the word "All" means

1. the whole of (used in referring to quantity, extent, or duration): all the cake; all the way; all year.
2. the whole number of (used in referring to individuals or particulars, taken collectively): all students.
4. every: all kinds; all sorts.

–pronoun
9. the whole quantity or amount: He ate all of the peanuts. All are gone.
10. the whole number; every one: all of us.
11. everything: Is that all you want to say? All is lost.

The cashier eventually gave me credit for the 2 DVD's I should of received free. I also sent a complaint to Blockbuster telling them they need to change the signs, but I doubt they do. It's stuff like this why they are losing business to Netflix, and Gamefly.

And this isn't the first time I've had problems with Blockbuster advertising. When Fellowship of the Rings came out on DVD they had a pre-order campaign where you got a card with 10 free rentals on it when you pre-ordered. The card said 1 free rental a week and weeks start on, I think it was Wed. Well, on Wed. of the second week I went in to use the second rental, and was told new weeks started on Saturday, and they didn't care what the card said. I think I'll just not go to Blockbuster any more.

And here is the rest of it. Read more On "False Advertising at Blockbuster Video"!

News on TR2N

Beaks at Ain't It Cool News got to talk to TR2N Director, Joseph Kosinski.

1) Lisberger is involved as a consultant. Kosinski couldn't be happier about this. He mentioned that Lisberger (and, presumably, Syd Mead) initially wanted the light cycles to have external riders, but they couldn't convincingly pull it off with the technology of the early '80s. So those light cycles you saw in the Comic Con test footage essentially reflect Lisberger's original design.

2) The Comic Con teaser was shot in stereoscopic 3D, and the film will be, too. Kosinski is particularly excited about the look of the game grid in this format.

3) Shooting TR2N will be a "twenty-four month" process, but Kosinski's already been at it for a while now. He didn't give me an exact date, but he seems confident that the movie could be ready for late 2010.

4) As we reported last week, WATCHMEN's Michael Wilkinson is designing the costumes. He officially joins the production this week.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Airs Tonight

Clone Wars begins airing tonight at 9PM Eastern on Cartoon Network. I think I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed the movie. The only issues I had with it were Zero the Hutt, who I think was only created to give Amadalia a bigger role in the movie. And the wise cracking battle droids kind of got on my nerves. Overall I thought it was pretty good for a pilot episode of a TV series. And here is the rest of it.

Dragon Ball Trailer Released

The Dragonball teaser trailer is out. It doesn't show a whole lot, so I don't want to say the movie is going to be bad or good yet. They need to release a trailer showing more of a fight scene than what this one shows. What do you think so far?

EDIT: Unfortunately the video was pulled.

Desk Wars: Return of Kagami

My Yuki Nagato, and Kagami Hiiragi Figma's arrived yesterday from Hobby Search. I had already opened Yuki, before I thought about taking photos of the packaging. So I just stood her in front of the box. Have some problems with the Yuki figure, but they are pretty minor issues. You can't get the figma stand into the hole on Yuki's back when she has her cape on. You have to sort of balance her with the hole in the cape. Also the cape section you use when posing her with the guitar does fit together perfectly with the main section, but it does fit well enough to stay put. Lastly, I noticed Yuki's shoes are brown, while the picture on the box shows white with blue soles.

Last time we left Konota surrounded by the stormtrooper, and General Grieveous after they had blasted Tsukasa to the edge of the desk. Recap here.
As Konota is trying to think of a way out of her predicament, Tsukasa's sister Kagami shows up. "How dare you blast my sister!" she yells at the stormtrooper.

Looking over to Konota she says, "Let's teach these bobble heads a lesson."
Kagami tries to take out the stormtrooper with a Hiiragi Flying Kick, while Konota jumps on Grievous and starts pounding on his head.
However, Kagami is surprised as the stormtrooper dodges her attack.
And quickly blasts her from behind. Meanwhile Grievous reveals his seach set of arms and grabs Konota flinging her through the air.

Tsukasa regains conciousness as the duo approach to finish her off. She quickly dials a number on her cell phone. "Please send help," she says as the person on the other end answers.
In a flash of light Yuki Nagato appears behind the unsuspecting evil doers.
She waves her wand, summoning the ultimate weapon in the universe to dispatch Grievous and the stormtrooper.

Afterward, the girls have some fun. Konota dances as Yuki plays her guitar. Kagami enjoys the latest issue of her favorite manga, while Tsukasa wonders why she got stuck serving the tea.
