I just finished playing a game called Ever 17. This is a type of game usually refered to as a dating sim game, but Ever 17 is much more than that. Instead of calling it a dating sim, I think calling it a Science Fiction Choose Your Own Adventure might be more appropriate. While the endings for the game center on the female cast, getting the girl is not the main point to the game.

At first glance it seems that for each ending you are playing through the same scenario just making different choices to see different endings. But the more you play the more the more you begin to realize there is something bigger going on, and that there is a connection to the various paths and endings ultimatly tie into each other.

The plot of the game is this. On May 1st 2017 an underwater amusement park known as LeMU has an accident that floods the first floor and most of the second and third floors of the park. Six people are trapped inside of LeMU and learn they only have 5-7 days to be rescued or find a way to escape the underwater park before the water pressure outside the park causes it to implode.

The game begins with an introductory seqment where they introduce the main characters, Takeshi, Tsugumi, Sara, Coco, Sora, Yubiseiharukan (who goes by You for short), and a young boy with amnesia who everyone just calls "Kid". Once the park begins to flood you are given an unassuming choice which then determines who you will play during the rest of the game, either Takeshi or the Kid, the only two male characters in the game.

As Takeshi you are trapped with Sora, Tsugumi, You, the Kid, and Coco. As the Kid you are trapped with Sora, Tsugumi, You, Takeshi, and Sara. This is the first major mystery of the game. Why is Coco only present during the Takeshi part of the game, and Sara is only present during Kids part of the game, and how come Kid keeps seeing Coco but no one else trapped with him can. This is just one of the mystries that will confront you. The only way to learn the answers to just exactly is going on is to play through the game multiple times. In fact it takes a minimum of 5 times if you get the good endings each time you play. But the story is very engaging and you will actually want to play through untill the very end. To help the game that has a featur e to skip any text you have already read and will fast foward at the hit of a button untill you reach a choice or text which hasnt been read yet. It also features a shortcut option you can use to skip to certain days in the story, May 1st-7th.

If you like these types of games or intrested in trying one out, I highly recommend Ever 17. You can read more about and order it at this link JAST USA. Ever 17 is rated T for Teen.

Coco and her dog Pipi

Sora gets angry, but why?

You attempts to beat the control room into submission :)

In an interview with Peter Jackson over at Dark Horizons, Jackson stated there may be a 3-4 disc edition of King Kong released later this year.

Jackson: No, that's all been saved for, ... it depends on Universal making a decision, but they seem to be pretty, keen on the idea of doing a 3 or 4 disc release, towards the end of the year which would include deleted scenes and bloopers and a whole new raft of docos that would go a lot deeper into the technical stuff of the making of the film that we couldn't show in the production diaries.

At the 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing in Tokyo, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutagari, made the offical announcement that the PS3 has been delayed untill Nov. 2006. The reason for the delay was due to "Blu-ray spec finalization."

The current plan is to do a worldwide release in Nov. and plans on producing atleast 1 million consoles a month in order to keep the supply channels full. Thier goal is to ship 6 million units by March 2007.

Kutagari, also announced the PS3 would feature a Xbox Live style online service. The basic service will be free and allow online play, with additional services available for a fee. There is even mention of the possibilty of being able to sell ingame items to other players, similar to Sony's Player Exchange service for Everquest 2.

The PS3 will also use a 60 gig Hard Disk Drive (HDD) loaded with the Linux operating system. Sony is urging game developers to design games assuming the HDD is installed in every PS3, but has not decided whether to include the HDD pre-installed or sold as a peripheral. If the HDD is not pre-installed this will mean gamers will immidiatly be required to purchase one in order to even play many games.

All PS3 games will be on Blu-ray disk format in order to prevent bootleging, but the PS3 will still play DVDs and CDs and will be backward compatible with both PS2 and PS1 games.

Release for the PS3 could be delayed. In an article on CNN yesterday a spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment said they are still shooting for a Spring 2006 release, but that they are still waiting on final specifications for some of the technology that will be included in the PS3

"We're aiming for spring, but we haven't announced specific regions,"

The article also stated that the initial production cost for the PS3 could be as high as 900.00 per unit. Tradtionally gaming hardware has always cost more to produce than
it retailed for with the manufactures making up the lose on software sales. For example Microsoft loses aprox 100-150 dollars for every XBox 360 it sells. But with a production cost of 900.00 per unit this could put the Playstation 3 in the 500-600 dollar price range for retail.

Goro Miyazaki, son of Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke), is directing an animated version of the Tales of Earthseas. Not sure if he's focusing on mearly the first book of the searies, written by Ursula K. Le Guin, or combing multiple books like Sci Fi did in thier awful live action film last year.

Never seen anything by Goro Miyazaki, but if he's anything like his father the movie should be good. The film will be released by Studio Ghibli and will be released in July in Japan.

Silent Hill Trailer Hits The Web!

Silent Hill is a series of games that have been released on the Playstation mainly. So yes it is a video game based movie, but this one looks like its been done right. If the trailer is anything to go by they have managed to capture the feel and suspense of the games. The story is original, but considering the only thing the 4 games had in common was they took place in Silent Hill thats ok. An orginal story will likely work better than trying to transfer one of the stories from the game which people have already played thru and know whats going to happen.

Anyway here is the link to the trailer, enjoy.

1up.com has a review of the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 2.

In thier review they say, "If the first Kingdom Hearts was a crazy experiment, then the sequel is the final product, refined and polished in dozens of small-but-important ways. One of the most obvious improvements is the game's massively higher budget; though the first looked nice, Kingdom Hearts II is one of the best looking games the PS2 has ever -- or will ever -- see. From photorealistic models to "I can't believe it's not PS3" massive battles, the game convinces the aging PS2 hardware to do things that seem nearly impossible."

Kingdom Hearts 2 is due out this Spring, and I can't wait to play it. The first Kingdom Hearts was an amazing game and this one is sure to top it. Read more On " "!
