Death Note L Change the WorLd Review
Went to see L, Change the WorLd tonight. I was surprised only about 15 people were in the theater to see the movie, considering Death Note, and Death Note 2: The Last Name both nearly sold out when I went to see them. Perhaps most people just bought tickets to tomorrow nights show since it's dubbed where as tonight's was a subbed showing.
The projectionist had a bit of a problem getting the movie started. Apparently these Fathom events are streamed to the theater via Dish Network HD, and the projectionist couldn't figure out how to get the movie started. Every time he hit play it just showed the Dish Network logo, and to see if it was working right started Beer Wars at one point. Eventually he or she figured out they should of started the playback about 30 minutes earlier and needed to fast forward through the upcoming Fathom Events loop that was supposed to be showing during that 30 minutes prior to start time.
Review after the jump and it contain massive spoilers.
As most of you reading this probably know L, Change the WorLd chronicles L's last 23 days on Earth after writing his own name in the Death Note in order to prove Light Yagami was Kira in the previous Death Note movie. The movie opens prior to L leaving for Japan to begin work on the Kira case and does a quick recap for people who might not of seen the previous film. We also learn that during L's investigation of the Kira case a Japan a small village in Thailand is destroyed by the US military to contain a highly contagious virus. A young boy from the village who is somehow immune to the virus is helped to escape by F, who tells the boy to find a phone and call Watari, who is dead by the time the boy makes the phone call. So L brings the boy out why F wanted him to contact Watari.
Meanwhile, a virus sample is sent to a doctor in Japan for analysis. The doctor creates a vaccine, but fearing what would happen if it fell into the hands of the people who created the virus, whom he suspects works in that very lab, sends his daughter to contact Watari with a sample of the virus and a clue to it's antidote. The daughter, Maki, returns to the lab to retrieve her stuffed bear just in time to witness her father commit suicide by injecting the virus into himself to prevent it from falling into the bad guys hands. The bad guys leader, Dr. Kujo, just happens to be K, and Maki's father's assistant. Maki quickly leaves the lab to try and find Watari.
Meanwhile, Kujo contacts L telling him someone killed Maki's father and stole the virus. L magnifies a a reflection behind Kujo's video message and sees a a bad guy that F warned L about via a message left with the boy. Maki finds L and tells him about her father and gives him the vial containing the virus. When Kujo arrives at L's Maki sees her on the surveillance camera, and goes to confront her. In order to try and kill Kujo, Maki injects herself with the virus. L intervenes and takes Maki and the boy away from there with the help of a suddenly appearing FBI agent, who was sent to try and get the Death Note from L.
L, Maki, and the boy make it to a colleague of Maki's father whom L believes can create an antidote before the virus in Maki's system becomes active. Luckily at this point Maki's low blood sugar has prevented the virus from becoming active and infecting all of Japan.
After discovering a vaccine thanks to the MK proteins in the boys system, Maki decides to try once again to kill Kujo and runs off and contacts her alone. Kujo captures Maki, and decides to fly her to the US where the virus will spread, and begin K's plan to wipe out human life to save the Earth.
This leads to a big showdown with L leaping onto a movie airplane with a bag full of antidote. L is able to save all but two of the bad guys thanks to them being to weak to do anything because of the virus that had become active infecting them. L, having only two days left, takes the boy to Watari's orphanage. There he gives the boy a toy robot and a name, Near. L then walks off into the sunset thinking how he would like to have more time in this world.
This movie was excellent. Of the three live action Death Note movies this one is defiantly the best. L Change the WorLd is a very action oriented film, where the other two focused on L and Light's battle of wills with very little action. Kenichi Matsuyama, did another excellent job as L. This time he had to play a different kind of L from the previous film, an L that is out of his element. L is used to working behind the scenes, having others do the dirty work, but this time L is forced to take matters into his own hands while protecting two children. Mayuko Fukuda, played Maki, and during the behind the scenes segment after film she said this was her first film. She did a wonderful job, and a very believable job of portraying a young girl grief stricken by the lose of her father that she is willing to kill the person who did it. Fukuda, probably has a very good career ahead of her.

Weekend Loot
Went to Best Buy to pick up some of their $10.00 games but by the time I was able to get out there all the ones I wanted were sold out. I tried getting rainchecks for Devil May Cry 4, Soul Caliber 4, Fracture, and Infinite Undiscovery at Best Buy because their ad said you could get rainchecks for the titles shown in the ad only. But, when they were only able to give me one for Infinite Undiscovery. Afterward, I went by Wal-mart and they had Fracture and I was able to price match it. They also had the Xbox 360 version of Soul Caliber 4, but because the Best Buy ad only showed the PS3 version they wouldn't price match that one.
Anyone able to get the games they wanted or were they sold out already?
Also picked up The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya hardcover novel, and this months Shojo Beat at Books-a-million. Reading Haruhi right now, and it's a pretty good book.

Kyoto Japanese Sushi Bar
Went to Kyoto Japanese Sushi Bar here in my home town for the first time today. I ordered Gyoza (fried), Spring Sushi (California Roll, 7 pieces of sushi-chef's choice), Eel Nigri, and Jalapeno Cream Duck. The waitress I had was very helpful with selecting something from their menu. The fried Gyoza was very good and came with a ginger dipping sauce. The duck was also very good, but the cream sauce begins to wear on you abougt halfway through the plate. I had to scrap some of it off of the last few bites. The sushi, however, was horrible. The fish was very mushy and bland. Even their soy sauce was bland, and I had to drench the rice in it to help flavor the sushi. The only good pieces were the fried egg, crab stick, and eel sushi.
So I've now been to both Sushi bars here in Monroe, LA, and have had opposite results at both. Kyoto, while having horrible sushi had a pretty decent entree. I've been to Samurai, the other sushi bar, twice, and their sushi was fantastic, while the entrees I tried were a bit lacking. At Samurai I've had their Red Curry which wasn't that great, and Soft Shell Crab which had a sauce that overpowered everything else on the plate. So my suggestion to anyone living in this area is if you want good sushi go to Samurai, but if your looking for a good entree then Kyoto might be the better choice.

What Car
On Mythbuster's last week Adam and Jamie tested a scene from the Matrix where two semi-trucks smash a car between them, pancaking the car, and fusing the vehicles together. Unable to produce the desired results when using two semi's, the Mythbusters decided to use a rocket sled. The results of their test can best be summed up in the words of Jamie,
The goal was to fuse metal and pancake the car.... What car?

Free Ticket to L: Change the WorLd
Just got this email from Viz Pictures. You can get a free ticket to Death Note: L, Change the WorLd at participating F.Y.E. and Suncoast stores with the purchase of any Death Note DVD or Merchandise. Hopefully they do better than Hot Topic's free tickets to Death Note: The Last Name promotion. I went to Hot Topic a few days prior to try and get my free ticket and the employees didn't know what I was talking about and after finding the tickets didn't think they could hand them out yet despite the movie opening in like two days. Unfortunately, I've already purchased my ticket or I would go to F.Y.E. because I still haven't bought either of the Death Note movies.

No US Release For Fatal Frame Wii
Nintendo of America has decided not to release the Wii version of horror game Fatal Frame in the US. Fatal Frame is a series of games where you must defend yourself from ghosts using a the mystical Camera Obscura. It's had 3 releases for the Playstation 2, and 4 game has been released in Japan for the Wii on July 31, 2008.
IGN interviewed Tecmo over Nintendo's decision not to release the game stateside. They had this to say,
"Nintendo holds the publishing rights to 'Fatal Frame Wii,' which was developed by Tecmo LTD. and Grasshopper Manufacture and released in Japan on July 31, 2008. Nintendo of America has since then decided not to publish the title in North America – consequently, the title will not be released in this territory. As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America."
I'm a big fan of the Fatal Frame series and was looking forward to this one. Had it actually been released it probably would of been the first Wii game I have actually purchased since buying a Wii on release day. Nintendo continues to disappoint Wii owners with continued releases of "party games" and now not releasing a game people actually want to play.
I suggest all fans of the Fatal Frame series contact Nintendo of America and let them know how much you want this game to actually be released here in the states. You can contact Nintendo through their website Contact Form

An English patch for "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" has been released by Sonozaki Futago-tachi. The patch only covers the Onikakushi Arc, but for fans of the Higurashi series it's a start. Sonozaki Futago-tachi also has a walk through on how you can legally download Higurashi no Naku Koro ni for about $15.00US from Melonbooks.com for those who can't read Japanese. I plan on picking it up when I get paid Friday.

My Room
This are some pics of my room I took for a contest Danny Choo was having. This wall of my room used to be wall papered with Star Wars figures, which is why there are little dots lined up near the ceiling. Those are thumb tacks I haven't gotten around to taking down yet. I had to box the figures up to make room for my bookshelves, and desk. I did leave a few up though.
When I worked at K-mart I used to collect the movie buttons they gave to employees to advertise new releases. The ones on that board above my bed are just a few of my collection. I also was able to get some really great displays like a life sized cutout of Mace Windu and Queen Amadala that Pepsi put up to advertise their Star Wars Episode 1 cans. I also have life sized vinyl banner of Jango Fett advertising Attack of the Clones. I have a few other banners advertising a Zelda game and Jurassic Park 3. If I get a chance I'll try and take some pics of these.
Last bit of my room. Shelf containing my Wii, Xbox 360 (Gamertag Ziroc Stormkiler), and PS3 (PSN Ziroc). No idea what my Wii friend code is, but if anyone's interested in exchanging friend codes I can look it up. Most of my games are on that top shelf, some are on the small bookshelf by more door in one of the pics above.
Well that's pretty much it for my room. The other wall only has some storage boxes stacked along it right now. Feel free to let me know what you think and if you have any questions about what something is. I'm looking forward to your comments.
