Harry Potter Wizard's Collection

Picked up the Harry Potter Wizard's Collection last week. Back when the first few movies came out on DVD I purchased them, but realized that after the final film came out they were bound to release some complete collection with a bunch of extras. At the time I was thinking behind the scenes documentaries, outtakes, deleted scenes, and probably some kind of collector's packaging. I didn't expect the massive set of collectibles that this comes with.

More after the jump...

To say the case this came in is big is an understatement as Kuroneko, Mikuru, and Konata can attest.

It's filled with drawers and hidden compartments to hold everything.

Each movie comes in one of this book style cases. It comes with blue ray and DVD versions of each film, and special features related to each film.

The horcrux locket from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows made by Nobel Collections.

One of the art books and the cloth map of the area surrounding Hogwarts. The set also comes with a couple more art books, a blueprint of Hogwarts, some production art prints. This set was limited to only 63,000 made and comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

Warner Bro's Japan has released an english subtitled trailer for their Live Action Ruruoni Kenshin movie. I have to say I like the trailer, and am looking forward to seeing this. The movie releases August 25th in Japan. It stars Takeru Sato as Kenshin Himura, Emi Takei as Kaoru Kamiya, and Munetaka Aoki as Sanosuke Sagara.

Who else is looking forward to this?

Cinemark's Star Wars Bait and Switch

Cinemark Theaters advertised limited edition Darth Maul 3D glasses to the "first Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace RealD 3D ticketholders, in line, at the theatre." I attended the midnight showing at my local Cinemark which cost 11.75 and was told they were not giving out the Darth Maul glasses to the midnight showing. They would be giving them out during the second screening when they opened back up later today. That showings ticket cost was only 8.50. So they advertise collectible glasses to the first in line tricking you into purchasing the more expensive ticket, and then give them out to the second group of people to watch the movie who paid less. The guy who took my ticket stub even suggested I come back and watch it again tomorrow to get the glasses if I really wanted them. This is false advertising and borderline fraud, since it was suggested I watch the movie a second time later today to get the glasses.

To anyone who attended a midnight showing and did not receive their Darth Maul glasses. I suggest taking your ticket stub back prior to the next screening today, and demand your glasses. The above advertisement from the Cinemark website says first ticketholders in line. It doesn't mention first ticketholders for X:XX showtime. So just be there first holding your ticket when they open back up. Demand to see the manager if you have to. If you can't make it back up to your theater, then write letters of complaint to Cinemark, and the Offical Star Wars Blog. I couldn't find anything but a mailing address for Lucasfilms.

[UPDATE] I was asked for the name and location of the theater I attended the screening at. The manager of that theater then emailed me and said he will hold a pair of glasses for me at the theater along with 2 free admission tickets.

Matthew Broderick's Day Off

This years Super Bowl ad from Honda features Matthew Broderick recreating several scenes from his 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The ad successfully recreates the fell of the movie, and actually had me wanting to re-watch the film.

Also Volkswagen posted this tease for their Super Bowl spot. It features a course of dogs barking "The Imperial March" from Star Wars.

This week they posted their actual commercial featuring an overweight dog. What does this have to do with Star Wars? Watch until the end to find out.

The Last Unicorn in Theaters

Conlan Press has announced beginning next year and running through 2013 that there will be more than 80 special digital screenings of The Last Unicorn through out America, Canada, Great Britain, and Germany. The book's author, Peter S. Beagle, will be attending each of these screenings to do Q&A sessions with the audience and sign autographs.

In addition to those screenings five million dollars has been set aside to digitally overhaul the film. The money will be used to go back and smooth out animation, upgrade special effects and sound, and finish background art that was never completed. Also 5 to 8 minutes of additional footage will be added. Once finished this updated version of the film will see a worldwide theatrical release in both 2D and 3D for it's 30th anniversary.

I'm personally looking forward to the theatrical re-release, and wish more classic films would be shown in theaters. Hopefully, one of 80 special screenings will be shown near where I live, but I doubt it. Anyone else looking forward to this?

In a Hole in the Ground There Lived a Hobbit

Peter Jackson has posted his first video blog from the set of the Hobbit. The video shows the reconstructed Bag End and Rivendale, as well as the orc caves where Bilbo has a fateful encounter. I really can't wait for The Hobbit part 1, but these videos should help make the wait a little more bearable.

TRON and an Eroge

Picked up TRON Legacy this week, and as a big fan of the original I had to get The Ultimate TRON Experience.

This 5 disc set comes in this collectible case shaped like an Identity Disc, which lights up. The 5 discs it comes with are TRON Legacy 3D Bluray (in case I ever get a 3D TV), TRON Legacy Bluray, TRON Legacy DVD, TRON Legacy Digital copy, and the original TRON on Bluray.

I also got the English language version of Da Capo, which is Mangagamer's first retail release of an eroge they have translated. It came with a soundtrack and art book. I'll probably play through it once I finish Dragon Age 2.

Three for the Price of One

Went to Best Buy this week and they had this 3 pack of PS3 games for 29.99. The included games were Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Tomb Raider Underworld, and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. Uncharted is 29.99 by itself, so I basically got the other two games for free. Also all proceeds from this 3 pack will be used to fund programs and opportunities for America's youth by the Entertainment Software Association Foundation. If you haven't gotten Uncharted yet, but have been considering it, I suggest seeing if your local Best Buy has this pack. Not only do you get 2 free games, but your donating to a worthy cause. More information on how the ESA uses the proceeds can be found at http://www.theesa.com/foundation.

I also picked up Tangled on Bluray which is an awesome movie. And according to The LA Times is Disney's Final Fairy Tale for the foreseeable future. They believe the target audience of young girls is to small to warrant making any more for now due to "The Princess and the Frog" not doing well. I just think the Princess and the Frog wasn't that good a movie. At least not compared to some of their other fairy tale themed movies. What are your thoughts on the subject?

And here is the rest of it. Read more On "Three for the Price of One"!

Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern Costume

Entertainment Weekly has a pic of Ryan Reynolds in his Green Lantern costume for the upcoming movie. I believe the costume is supposed to be completely CG and in my opinion looks hideous. If you look at this large version of the image at Collider it looks like the mask is actually part of his skin as you can see the pores on his face. The same with the costume it looks like his neck starts to turn green and flow into the odd muscle design of the suit.

Anyone actually like the design of the suit? Or do you think they should of stuck with a more classic look from the comic?

Thor, Odin, and Loki in Costume

The LA Times has posted this first look of Anthony Hopkins (Odin) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) in costume, Chris Hemsworth has been shown in costume previously. I like the Odin costume, but I think they really should of kept the horns that Loki sports in the comics. I'm hoping they just didn't add them for this image, and they are actually featured at some point in the film.

What are your thoughts on the look of the cosutmes?

Space Paranoids Available Free Online

Encom's classic arcade game Space Paranoids is now available to play for free online at http://www.spaceparanoidsonline.com/. Space Paranoids was a created by Encom employee Kevin Flynn. The success of the game sent him up the corporate ladder to become CEO. Unfortunately Flynn mysteriously disappeared in 1989. There have been many claims of people seeing Kevin Flynn over the years, and there are many of us who still believe he's out there. You can keep up with news concerning Kevin Flynn, and even help in the search at FlynnLives.com

New Manga and Games

Went to Barnes and Nobel this past week and picked up some manga. Got Yotsuba&! volumes 4, 5, and 6.

Cool video of the characters from Yotsuba&! in the Azu Manga Daioh opening.

Ordered the Ai Yori Aoshi visual novel from Rightstuf. It was 5.99 when I ordered it, but it's gone up to 8.99 now. Went to Best Buy and picked up Infamous for the PS3. They had a coupon for 10.00 off and I had 15.00 in reward certificates so got it for 14.99+tax.

This came in the mail this week also. It's a 25th anniversary original motion picture score for The Goonies. It was published by Varese Sarabande and is limited to 5000 copies. And I believe it is the first full release of all the tracks that Dave Grusin composed for the movie. This CD is comprised of 34 of Grusin's compositions. Previous soundtracks only included 1 of Grusin's scores with the other 11 tracks being songs by Cyndi Lauper and other songs heard in the background.

TRON Legacy Trailer in Quicktime

The first real trailer for TRON Legacy has been released in Quicktime. The previous teaser shown in theaters was just VFX concept test footage that had been shown at Comic-con last year.

The trailer shows Flynn's son, Sam, as he gets transported to the computer world while looking for his father who's been missing for several years.

You can view the trailer at http://www.program-glitch-esc.net/
